VIDEO SELFIE DRONE: 'AirDog' UAV follows you everywhere you go

'Follow me' quadchopper project gallops past its Kickstarter goal

A Kickstarter campaign to take the art of sports videography to new heights with the stalking "thundered past its funding target.

Described as "the world's first auto-follow action sports drone", the AirDog will lift a GoPro and then chase its owner wherever he or she runs with a programmable tracker.

It's impressive stuff, capable of 10-20 minutes of flight, depending on speed, and a claimed maximum altitude of 3,000m. However, it can only carry a GoPro 3, which is a bit of a downer for owners of the superior GoPro 2, or indeed any other sports cam.

Furthermore, caution is required because the AirDog "cannot see or avoid any obstacles in its flight path". Accordingly, you're warned to watch your head "if you’re headed into a tunnel or underneath a bridge".

The finished product will retail for an estimated $1,500, but if you can't wait until the AirDog hits the shelves and the skies, there are other ways to get a piece of the growing "fly to heel" UAV action.
